Our Programs & Projects

Targeted, community-driven initiatives delivering real change for women and children across Tanzania.

What We Do

Programs Designed for Lasting Impact

Each TANEFO program is designed in collaboration with communities, addressing specific needs while building local capacity for self-sustaining change.

Women's Finance

Women Financial Capability Program

Financial independence is the foundation of a dignified life. This program empowers women in Manyara Region to develop marketable artisan skills, enabling them to generate sustainable income and take control of their economic futures.

Women learn to produce high-quality handcrafted goods that reflect the rich cultural heritage of Tanzania's communities โ€” from intricate beadwork to woven baskets โ€” creating products that are both locally valued and internationally appealing.

  • Beadwork & Jewelry: Traditional Maasai-inspired beadwork, necklaces, bracelets, and earrings using culturally meaningful patterns and materials
  • Basket Weaving: Natural fiber basket production combining traditional techniques with marketable modern designs
  • Market Linkage Training: Teaching women how to price, market, and sell their products through local markets and community networks
  • Financial Literacy: Basic savings, budgeting, and reinvestment principles to help women grow small businesses

Empowerment

Women Empowerment Programs

Beyond financial skills, true empowerment means building confidence, knowledge, and the capacity for leadership. TANEFO's Women Empowerment Programs equip women with both practical business skills and the personal agency to use them.

From hands-on entrepreneurship training to creative textile arts, these programs celebrate women's talent while building pathways to economic independence and community leadership.

  • Entrepreneurship Training: Business planning, marketing, pricing, and customer service skills for starting and growing small enterprises
  • Batik Making: Traditional and contemporary batik textile arts โ€” creating wearable art with commercial value in local and tourist markets
  • Leadership Development: Building women's confidence to participate in community decision-making and advocate for their families
  • Peer Support Networks: Creating women's groups that provide mutual encouragement, resource sharing, and collective problem-solving

Education

Children Education Support

Education is the most powerful investment in Tanzania's future. Yet children in pastoralist communities often face significant barriers โ€” long distances to school, lack of materials, economic pressure to contribute to household income, and infrastructure gaps.

TANEFO's Children Education Support program works to remove these barriers, ensuring that every child in Manyara Region has the opportunity to attend school, learn, and grow into the next generation of community leaders.

  • Learning Materials Support: Providing notebooks, pens, uniforms, and essential school supplies to children who cannot afford them
  • Community Awareness: Working with parents and community elders to promote the importance of education, especially for girls
  • After-School Support: Tutoring programs and homework support to help children catch up and keep pace with their studies
  • Teacher & School Engagement: Collaborating with local teachers and schools to improve learning environments and community engagement
